not sure if this is in the right place, but I have an older remote controlled car that uses a 7.2v nicad battery. I was wondering if I could just put some 7.4v lithium batteries in it. do I need to change anything or is it just plug and play? m the current batteries are only 750mah and the lithium are 2800mah

make sure the lithium are high discharged type batteries, if they are low discharge they will get real hot. Powertool lithium batteries are the best for RC, they can handle high amp motors. what brand/type are your 2800 mah?

Needs a BMS or RC warning buzzer to ensure it won't go below low voltage cutoff of approx 2.5V per cell.

if you're talking a very small car you could use 2 protected 18650s instead of a BMS

I understand you are limited in space inside this RC car.
I am sure you can run this on 8V , 2S 18650 cells /charged to 4V/cell
if there is enough room use 2S2P combination of 18650 cells.
