Retirement Time

They want to pull her off the ventilator and gave her Remdesivir. The Hydroxychloroquin with Zithromax and zinc effective treatment is unavailable so she is now a 300# guinea pig. :|
Also has sepsis so we will see.

Flames visible from >40 miles away on the way home from work. Around 9:30 pm, temperature 87 degrees F.

Apple Fire now burning halfway up Mt. San Gorgonio, smoke trailing for over 100 miles.

Finally talking to grandma on the phone for the first time in weeks. She wants out of the hospital but hasn’t walked in so long that she needs therapy just to eat and stand. Not a minor miracle to hear her voice. The nurse is giving her applesauce. :)

Got the lawn mowed on my day off. Neighbor’s dogs came through the fence again, out through the other side into another neighbor’s backyard and busted out the front in a different place damaging the gate also. He’s nicely fixed it using boards I had left over from the last time it happened. He also recently removed a big tree that left a mess for a week out front. A little more work needed still.

Noticed low pressure in the front sprinklers causing a hard spot on the lawn next to the driveway. One of the valves was leaking.
Replaced both valves and the associated pvc pipe and will spot water with the hose at dusk and turn the timer back on tomorrow as the forecast high is for 110 degrees F through next week.

Lake Fire (large) near Castaic and Ranch Fire (smaller) near Azusa clearly visible in the daytime satellite view by zooming in on SoCali.
Air quality and visibility poor throughout the region.

Had to call the lawn sprinkler guy out again. The front grass is greening back up but now there’s a leak at the end of the roses under a lavender bush and the water is running out underneath on the neighbor’s side into the gutter and down the street.
The neighbor on the other side’s dogs broke into
the backyard, went into the other neighbor’s backyard then out front again but he fixed the fence right away. I just need to add a few screws to the gate.
I also fed the roses in front and watered with the hose to encourage more blooms. Still need to feed the ones in back, then it will be time to mow again when it’s not as hot.

Got the lawn mowed, turned the sprinklers off for a week. Turned them back on until it cools off again this weekend. Have a 30-50% chance of rain coming through the beginning of the week so we’ll see.
Cut the cable TV and phone so saved $60 a month by having internet only. Netflix, Roku and smart TV now the way to go.

One of the new rose bushes is croaking one cane at a time, along with the other one that didn’t survive digging up the sprinkler valve. Will look for a new bare root Double Delight in January.
The rock beds in back getting the spotted spurge purge, otherwise outdoor work has been slow but the leaves will fall and need raking eventually.
Recent rain caused the ants to make a last ditch effort to invade the pantry, getting into one of Oliver’s bags of jerky snacks which had a tiny hole in it. Had to throw that one out, but returned the other ones to Trader Joe’s and they even refunded the one I trashed. Terro Ant Baits to the rescue.
Work is ramping up for the Holiday Season and due to increasing COVID 19 concerns. They want to give me more hours. That could keep me busy for a while. When I collect Social Security they will limit how much I can make until at age 70 you get to earn and keep as much as you want. :pancake:
