Torqeedo battery and chargetemps

Was browsing around looking at electric outboards and stumbeled upon the specsheet for torqeedos beep blue batteries.
Chargetemp is stated at -20C to +50C. What lithium tech could they be using to allow such cold charging?

Lipo converts almost all their charge current to heat at such stemperatures. Cells heat up and they will begin to take a charge.

I was under the impression that lithium batteries aged alot faster when being charged at too low temperature.
Have read some studies linked here on the sphere but dont recall the specifics. Something about some solids that appeared on either the anode or cathode, increasing the resistance of the cell.
Perhaps someone with this fresh can chime in!

I have always been reluctant to charge my cargobike with its permanently mounted battery at too low temps. 5C at worst I think.
I have also disabled the regen when temps has been close to freezing or under.

You're not going to be using an electric outboard at sub zero Celsius. The water will be frozen, silly. :wink:

A123 M1B cells spec:
Operating Temperature
-30°C to 55°C

Since their webpage says Johnson Controls helped with the battery, and IIRC Johnson Controls purchased some portion of A123, I would guess that type.

Good catch, do you know what differs from "regular" lithiums?

One they are in cans, compression. Wow I thought it was a typo.-22 Fahrenheit.
