    New em3ev Battery Issue/Question

I bought a complete kit from em3ev five or six years ago, and the battery developed an issue where it wouldn’t take a charge anymore, so I ordered a new one. I swapped out the battery for this new one, and they now come with a power switch. If I take the bike fresh off the charger, it will...

NEEDED : spoke info for MAC 10T in 26" DM 24

When I got Sapim replacement spokes for my original rim from Paul at em3e for my mac in a 26 inch Alex rim he sent me 192mm and 194mm. Same tension both sides (about 27 to 30) and yielded a very strong rim with "automatic dishing."

Any suggestions for a comfortable e-bike seat?

I've been very happy with the Planet Bike A.R.S. Spring. Elastomer springs, padded where the sit bones go, and relieved for the male anatomy. -Slo

    My favorite rear light... ever

Nice! I'll be stopping at HF on the way home tonight. Thanks! :D EDIT TO ADD: Got back from The Harbor a while ago. I just stuck it on the rear of my rack with some two-sided outdoor tape. What a great light. The viewing angle is much wider than I though it would be. Of course, the switch...

    body armour... safety anyone?

I have a mesh upper body armor similar to the one you showed left over from my dirt biking days. Really considered wearing it, even dug it out of storage, but haven't ever actually followed through. I am positive it would've helped a lot during my second get-off ... that's actually when I went...

So today I'll hit 8,000 miles since last April

Wow! That's an awesome mileage total. If there were an emoticon for "HARDCORE," I'da used it. I'm shooting for less than half that during my April to November riding season. Ride on, Brother!

My Schwinn High Sierra Mac 8 (em3ev) ... Update

I mention that in the build thread linked in my sig. Old 4130 MTBs are great for conversions - you've said so yourself! I do keep an eye on craigslist, but I haven't seen any good deals yet. Plus, I don't have any more money to put into this project at the moment. I was lucky SWMBO let me...

My Schwinn High Sierra Mac 8 (em3ev) ... Update

Rode it about 2700 miles last season. I got a bit of a late start, and some spoke troubles tried to keep me down. I did have a couple crashes. First one at about 20 mph. "Superman-ed" off the bike and slid. Hit so hard I bent the keys I had in my pocket. Gouged knee, various other scrapes...

Dogman is now a recumbent kook

I bought a green ReBike back in like '94! Loved that thing - fun to ride, great conversation starter, and comfortable. It accidentally kinda got left outside over a winter into the spring ... part of the summer. Got so rusted I ended up not wanting to fix it. I should've! I think it would make...

Schwalbe Big Apple and Bontrager H5 Hardcase Reviews

Put these on my ebike last spring and rode them for 2700 miles or so. Both in size 26 X 2.0 The Big Apple performed very well on the front. It still had plenty of tread left, but it was "feathered" toward the back. I'm not sure it shows, but the center tread blocks are worn more toward the...

    Do you care about pedaling?

I pedal the whole way. That was a critical design factor from the start. Wanted to commute by bike for the exercise, but 25 miles each way is too far without assist for me. 40 amp controller gives me 2K watts, I guess, but if I run more than 700-800 for very long the MAC overheats. I have a...

Large Chainring w/ Crystalyte Hub motor?

It is good for me! I had to do something to get my weight down. That long duration, medium intensity exercise is just what the doctor ordered. I don't know the OP's reason for wanting to pedal at speed, but I do it in an effort to improve my health. -Slo

Large Chainring w/ Crystalyte Hub motor?

I use a 62t front chainring. I want the exercise, so I start off in my lowest rear gear and pedal hard from a stop and then up through the gears until I reach the speed/cadence I want. Works great for me. I can pedal up to 40+ mph this way with the 14t rear cog. http://hostelshoppe.com has...

Throttle is always on a little bit ...

That was Paul's recommendation ... to just turn that minimum up a little.

Throttle is always on a little bit ...

I e-mailed Paul about it. He also told me that it's fine to leave that disconnected. He added that it shouldn't make any difference. But it did! Still curious, and after reading your reply, I went out to test that with my multi-meter. I plugged the clip back in and ... nothing. It's not...

Throttle is always on a little bit ...

I went out to unplug the throttle - there are three little clips that connect to the CA: 2 black ones and a baby blue one. I unplugged just one of the black ones and the problem seems solved. Throttle appears to work normally. I'd hate to go to all the trouble of changing the throttle out if...

Throttle is always on a little bit ...

I have a Mac 8T, Cycle Analyst, half-twist throttle. All from em3ev. More details on build here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61752 When I switch it on, it tries to move. Wants to add about 45-80 watts all by itself. Did not do that before … just started. Seems I saw...

Who else is in the 5,000 miles or more in a year club?

It's my first year e biking. I was hoping for 3334 miles this year, but I had some problems early on - you know, usual teething issues. Cost me a lot of miles and Michigan weather imposes its own limits. Of course, seeing where you live, I'm sure not going to make any excuses LOL. My commute...

Battery charge versus run down question

I have an EM3EV triangle battery (50v 25 amp hour) with his Mac 8t 40 amp kit. Now that it's cold, I find I can run the motor harder without it getting too hot. I'm using quite a bit of the battery (about 17 amp hours on my 26 mile each-way commute, up to 20 if I run errands). Is it better to...
