Aussie Role Call

Been alooong time since i started this thread looking for local West Aussies interested in a group ride
well, my bike is finally up and running i hope for the long run this time, so i was keen to try and organize
a group ride in coming weeks, Unless anyone has a better suggestion i thought a twilight ride with a met up at a point
along the cycle path around the river/city as its pretty central for all north or South of the river

we could start and finish with a bar-b-q perhaps at Mcallum Park for example? there is electric barbys there to cook on IIRC?
and lots of shaded areas, if there is enough keen to do so? Or even the Burswood Casino where theres security parking for your cars?
alternatively ride and end at a beer garden along the way for a few ales and chat about e- bikes?

If we could get numbers on anyone interested so we can start to organize dates and times that would be convenient too the majority.
And any suggestions are obviously more than welcome..

The pace will be leisurely so anyone with non-e-bike cycling friends should be encouraged to come along.

Put your hand up if your interested...and/or have any better suggestions

I'll be in on that 1 AJ as long as you don't mind a frock powered bike in your gang, I'll ride at the back if I have to (reminds me of when I had a two stoke motor bike), anywhere along the river is good for me as I live in Bayswater about two blocks away

cheers mark

I'm in Bayswater too (Embleton actually).

Can't guarantee I'll be available till I see a date, but if the stars align and I'm free and my e-bike is running I'll join in on a river ride. Course I could ride my roadie instead, drafting behind you all.

NOT available weekend 23/24 Oct :)

Matt.P also lives in Bayswater!! Depending where we end up meeting up, i could get dropped at Matts, and all 4 of us ride to the meet point? Shall give it a week and see how many are interested in the ride anywayz.

Only just saw this thread.

I am in Canberra (don't hold that against me), I have a 960W cyclone setup on a crappy chinese dual suspension bike, which I just installed a Nuvinci N360 hub into. I was running 36V Lifepo4 at first, but have just moved to LIPO in the last few weeks, so have only just started to really taste the fun of Ebiking properly. The Nuvinci has been a revolution as even with 36V with the cyclone, i went through two rear derauliers. At 50V of lipo and with the Nuvinci the Glorius Chinese Lucky Dragon bike with Cyclone is a whole new beast, and is great for pulling the kids around in the trailer with.

I just put a 1000W BMC V3 into a recumbent trike that i just got, and I have one of the 9C ordered with Hyena's chinese importation, which i plan to experiment with a Lyen controller i just got, and some higher voltage LIPO on.

I would be keen to see the Nuvinci N360 being pushed by an RC setup, but i think that is a ways off, as I have pretty much spent all my spare cash and patience of the wife at the moment. After i had my first kid i sold all my motorbikes (i had a fireblade, GSXR750 and a drz400), so i keep trying to remind the wife how much cheaper and safer this hobby is, but as i have more kids i strangely seem to have a rapidly decreasing amount of money and hand...

Philistine...welcome to the forum mate, i think we have a few Canberites on ES Boostjuice comes to mind, he posted pics from very recent EV gathering in Australian capital...

IIRC ES mod Ypedal MaNZ uses the Nuvinci (not sure exact model) on his bike with an Astro 3110 inrunner motor.
He has a heap of videos up of it in action if you do a search of his threads.

Hi There,

My name is Phillip and I'm in CANBERRA

I have 2 eBikes

Commuting eBike:
No-name 500w front gearless hub motor with a PING Lifepo4 36v 30Ah. Max power is 1300w (limited) and tops out around 32km/h. I get about 70Km range
Distance: 3800Km without a problem (after I used better high current wire)
Built: November 2009

Fun Bike:
1200w Cyclone 3 piece chain driven bike with 48v 25Ah Lifepo4 battery. Max power is only 1800w but meeting up with friend on friday to try and increase that to 2400w. Tops out at 50km/h on the flat and 73km/h down a slight hill. Only get about 38Km range. I took a chance and bought a cheap Lifepo4 battery from http://www.conhismotor.com and surprisingly it works great with very little voltage drop. Viewed with Cycle Analyst.
Distance: 488Km
Built: September 2010

Would like to meet others in Canberra for a eRide one day

I can vouch for that!! I met Philistine and rode his ebike with the Nuvinci hub and even the 960w Cyclone FAR OUTPERFORMED my 1200w cyclone with gears. Up a steep hil near his house, I was stuck in 2nd on my 1200 cyclone ebike at 29km/h, with his 960w cyclone with nuvinci I slowly kept twisting the gear ratio and cruised UP the hill at 45km/h!!!

Anyone wondering if a nuvinci hub is worth it.....DON'T wonder...it is MADE for chain driven eBikes!!!

Does the 1200 watt Cyclone have internal gears ? the 1500 watt ??

Yes the 1200 cyclone has an internal gear system same as the 960w version. The 1500w motors dont.

Hoy Kim,

When are you going to organise a West Aussie ride day? Not that I'll have an e-bike to play with anytime in the next two weeks, but in about a month I should be ready to take Voltron quietly through the streets of Joondanna. I'm often going for a ride through the hills on the 'Bird of a weekend too, so I should drop in on you one day ;)

Well...just so happens haha Timma...Matt.P and myself are heading out this weekend for a morning 20 kilometer jaunt...If anyone wishes to join us pm for details, will be a ride along down and up the hills ;)

...I still want to organize a twightlight ride ASAP before it gets ridiculously hot 34C here today :: sigh :: ...I have asked for those interested to shout out a couple have, i wanted to get suggestions for where to ride unless everyone is fine with a river ride ? I was thinking maybe a sausage sizzle at one of the many bar-b-q areas along the river so we could all catch up and discuss and checkout each others rides...

OK...before we decide where lets get a definite date and numbers ...

Is 21st November say 4pm-6/7pm for ride and possible bar-bq? Good for everyone wishing to come along?

All wishing to come and are available on this date can you please p.m with name and mobile number, ill make up a list of all wanting to particpate....if your not available, can you give me a date when you are so as the above date can be changed to suit the majority

Looking forward to meeting all the local e-bikers anywayz...

+1
Thanks for organising this Kim. I’ll put my name down too for Sunday 21st Nov.
River ride is good for me.
I expect it will be low speed on the bike paths.
The morning is the Great Bike Ride, but that will all be cleared away well before 4pm.

Will be good motivation to get my ebike back together.... Probably with mucho cable ties and tape.

No worries mate... I have made up a list of people in Word Document with names and contact info, nearer the date i shall send you all out a lil reminder of the up coming ride, we also need to decide on a suitable starting point, any suggestions from those attending? I fish regularly at Garvey Park just off Great Eastern hyy in Redcliffe the bike path runs pqst, there is heap of parking and bar-b-q facilities toilets a kiosk etc etc... Just throwing it out there suggestions guys?

W.A Group Ride on 21st November ~4pm-6/7pm for ride bar-b-q/Drinks after..

After discussion with Matt.P who happens to live a stones throw from the river and cycle paths, carpark next to the Garrat Rd Bridge Bayswater will be the official meet point for the group ride. Hopefully this is central and suitable for all members attending the ride.

View attachment Garrat_Rd_bridge.JPG

Matt advised there is several loops on the bike path we can ride from this point along the bike paths, there is also ample parking in the carpark behind the Bayswater Rowing club building, we can gather out the front/side of the building before heading out ...

I'm guessing the ride will take an hour at least, i will more than likely be hanging around after the ride to do some fishing under the Garrat Rd bridge, tis a hot spot for Black Bream and i haven't fished it for few years now so will take this opportunity to have a ride and a fish i think Unsure if there is bar-b-Q facilities available shall check with Matt for others wishing to stay back for a couple of cans a cook up and chat..

Look forward to meeting up with those attending..

Any new members or those that haven't seen the thread please pm your nick/name and mobile if you wish to attend and i can give you a reminder closer to the date

Carpark next to the Garrat Rd Bridge Bayswater will be the official meet point for the group ride.

There is BBQ's in that area Kim, unfortunately I am working on the 21st. I will try to swap that shift so I can come along.
Cheers,
Matt.
