I'm hoping to build a lithium titanate battery pack from cells off eBay/AliExpress and looking for BMS recommendations. The BMS choice should take into account:

  • The voltage of LTO cells is about 2.3 V nominal, 2.9 V charged, and 1.6 V discharged (the exact numbers vary by manufacturer).

  • About 15 cells in series to make an approximately ~36 V battery (no parallel cells because each one is usually at least 20 Ah)

  • The cells are said to handle charge currents of at least 5C, so (for 20Ah cells) 100 A. That's probably more than I can provide but I'd like to try something like 20 A charging.

  • I heard from a friend that the internal resistance can be quite variable between cells so that balancing is important. I think this means I should get a BMS with a high balancing current and/or can balance well before the cells reach full charge?

Any BMS recommendations or comments on these criteria? Thanks!

I would recommend a LLT or ANT Bluetooth BMS with a separate balancer board if you need higher balancing currents.
