Oversized spoke Nipples

which is easily done with a cheap 3/8-inch hydraulic tubing flare tool.

Just ordered this flaring tool. Looks decent quality and it’s under $30. Have 72 washers to shape, front and rear lol

Your wrists will get very tired.
Maybe try a shortcut and get a 1/8 socket extension to put in the drill with the appropriate socket size. My hyd tuber I used a wrench. 72 will be a wrist workout
Tightening tight
Then loosening
and dropping a washer and bending over to pick it up
then lining up the new washer
making sure washer stays put
making sure washer doesnt move
tightening
and repeat....... 72 times
:barbell: I know the emoji doesnt work but you still get the idea

The washers I used were from a fastener store and whatever I could get that would fit, so basically a step up from your F-grade Homeless Despot washers

Grabbed a similar looking unit, threaded part looks the same as mine.

I am not looking forward to doing it when I find a 180mm rear hub with disc and doing the front.
The 72 workout, just like you

Hopefully the drill will save my wrist

I did a hundred and eight spokes and nipples. I had a good rim in a bad motor at a take 36 of them off to get to the rim I had a good motor with a bad rim I had to take 36 of them off and stick them in a bag and then I had to put that rim on that motor what's another 36. about 2 weeks ago and I used 13-14 gauge spiam spokes and washers under the heads on the motor side. It can be done.
As it's hard to find a rim brake quality bicycle rim 26in

Just wondering if anyone has tried using aluminum or copper tubing flared on one end...Have the nipple fit into, thru like a sleeve

That's a GREAT idea. dishing washers seems to work OK, but having a short neck on it from the parent tubing would be sweet if it works. Don't know why I didn't think of it before.

I would recommend brake line tubing from an auto parts store as an experiment. I think its stainless steel (or at least some type of steel) and it flares fairly easy. Cut it off down a hair below the flare and it would center the neck of the nipple, while still leaving enough nipple exposed to tighten it.

Plenty of youtubes showing how to use a cheap brake-line flare tool. The brake-line flare tool can make a "double flare", but you can still just use it to make a single-flare. The hydraulic flare tool might be cheaper?

They have don't most of what is possible here, figured some one has tried it. Did not know if the soft metals would be hard enough to support the hole. May need to flare it before cutting it off. would be a lot of work.

Here’s some washers from Amazon that have a similar profile, but they don’t have the neck as you’re describing. These particular washers won’t work in my situation, was able to find the 6mm bore nipples at 12ga :D
But I could consider making some that would fit the 6 mm nipples that would have a neck to support the nipple body.

Have been tempted of late to angle my spoke holes. The fear of getting stress fractures bothers me. Have been thinking of just over size holes with a some type of sleeve so the nipple head would have two points of pivot. This topic has been beaten to death, have not seen one simple solution yet. Keep working on it.

He is great got what you need ... Plus a Phil Wood machine to boot. Got the nipples for my Sur Ron DOT rims from him plus cut spokes. Or try Treatland.tv of course.

So your guy Marcus has the moto nipples in 12ga and 13gauge :D 6mm bore
Ordered 80 of them, thanks for the referral!!

So if anybody else is looking for Moto size nipples in 12 or 13 gauge he’s got them. I’m sure many people will be searching for these since Holmes hobbies doesn’t carry them anymore

On a similar vein, "Danscomp" has custom-length cut spokes.

The customer service provided more options on the phone than were listed on their website.

Why not try the belleville washers Chalo suggested? they come in O.D. as small as .1870"

https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tnpla/87779617

Yeah for sure that’s the plan to use belleville washers :thumb:
Thanks for the link! I will look through there to see if they have the right size. The nipple is 6 mm wide. So if I can buy washers already made so be it, if not I bought the tool to shape the washers. The nipples are being sent out today so I need to measure them to confirm the size before I actually order the washers.

Maybe not the most economical source, but they have lots of different sizes and materials. The one I linked would be a pretty good choice for 6mm nipples.
