Just wondering about the shock and fatigue of hard mounted electrical boards experienced on a high speed bike, the bone rattling harmonics. For heavier electrical components (opposed to 0603/0805 passives), would using through-hole have an advantage regarding durability. Can the copper pull off the PCB using surface mount?

SMD is tougher by a long shot.

surface mount parts can be damaged by flexing of the pcb. capacitors are especially vulnerable but the surface mount resistors also suffer when the board flexes and breaks the SMD attached to it. legs on the SOT-23 type transistors or opamps prevent the force being applied to the IC so they are not effected. but heavy stuff like transformers or caps can break the trace off the board if they are dropped.
