VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

The fingers said:
One local VW dealer is running a radio spot offering to accept recalled diesel models in trade for new gas models.

You mean the gas models that are caught up in a scandal as well?

THINGS are going from bad to worse at beleaguered car manufacturer Volkswagen, which has been forced to admit the emissions scandal has widened to include petrol vehicles for the first time.

Who said this would not effect their sales numbers?

Bosch gets dragged in!

Media is not buying the VW story line. Much smarter than most regulators. VW is now synonymous with Bull Shite Artists. Was anyone buying the funny story line that a little plastic air grater was going to solve the NOx issues? DasBull

It's an interesting and intelligent idea :)

I wonder if Tesla hope to sell VW batteries for the proposed EV's?

Fair point, I didn't think the letter was intended to be self-serving, just wondered what, if anything, would be in it for Tesla by encouraging more competition to their products.

It is a win for tesla if more ev charging stations get installed for certain. Making ev's more common and not so far fetched is also a win. I bet all the other diesel manufacturers are seriously pissed off at VW for opening this investigation deeper than it needed to be. All are suspect now!

VW hired the pay master to settle it quickly in the US.

Wow !
So we have gone from hounding VW as a cheating purveyor of leathal poison generating , mass murder, planet destroying , totally unacceptable, must be crushed, etc etc , cars ...to
...... Release VW from its obligation to fix diesel cars already on the road in California, which represent an insignificant portion of total vehicles emissions in the state, and which cars do not, individually, present any emissions-related risk to their owners or occupants
.???
..isn't that simply saying ..." There is not really a problem with these diesel emissions....yada , yada, yada,...?

I agree the idea is a good one, but it is what should have been said initially, before the hounds of hell ( law firms). We're poked into life, and turned loose on all diesel makers.
Maybe someone has realised there are some issues with making all diesel vehicles compliant in CA ! :?:

Don't think for a second that CA will buy it. Texas maybe. Just a olive branch from musk, he knowing that it is just a matter of time before he is on the wrong end of the recall war for one thing or another. VW will most likely need to buy them back from CA customers if they want to resolve this quickly. I don't see the public appetite for forgiveness given the way they handled it. They are still in the crapper across the US on most models for some time to come.

He gets the press however. Interesting way to promote another way to go rather than having only bad choices of putting folks out of work, scraping vehicles that are of high utility (even if they run a bit too dirty) and spending tons on drawn out legalities while the customers suffer further losses of residual values on their cars. He can go on for weeks speaking publicly across major media markets free of charge on the merits of EV's taking most of the air out of the VW BS machine.

If the most valued criteria is having a life-supporting atmosphere on earth for a longer duration, then Musk's (or whomevers) proposal to spend the same money they would have spent on the 'fix' towards developing and producing EV's is a no brainer.

Any ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle clearly remains a violation of the consumer product safety act, fixed or not fixed:
SEC. 5. [15 U.S.C. § 2054]
(a) The Commission shall—
(1) maintain an Injury Information Clearinghouse to
collect, investigate, analyze, and disseminate injury data, and
information, relating to the causes and prevention of death,
injury, and illness associated with consumer products;
(2) conduct such continuing studies and investigations of
deaths, injuries, diseases, other health impairments, and
economic lossesresulting from accidents involving consumer
products as it deems necessary...

Saying these vehicles spray an 'acceptable' or 'not-acceptable' amount of extremely well documented to be deadly carcinogenic mutagenic byproducts for humans to be poisoned with is kinda absurd.

It would be like saying it's OK to run around spraying bullets at people and animals all day long if the caliber of bullet or rate of fire is inside the 'acceptable level'.

The acceptable level if humans wish to pursue non-fleeting species survival as shipmates on this beautiful blue marble we share flying through space together is 'zero' or at close as possible to 'zero' emissions, which everything else being a for-show-gesture rather than solution.

-Luke

VW looks to be getting the Japaneses lettuce inspection on the diesel fix in CA. Few more days before they can crush them all and take to write down this year.

Arnold had a interesting post on FB. I can hear him saying......"listen to me now and believe me some other time" .

Im blown away by Arnold's message (in a good way!). Politicians so rarely have something worth saying, let alone something that makes sense.

Way to go Arnold!! Im super impressed with your sane message to stop poisoning the earths single atmosphere!

Keep in mind that when he was in office, he commuted by jet airplane. And before that, he was the single most important figure in making the Hummer a household vehicle. I'm not sure it matters what you say, if this is what you do.

I used to build gas race engines obsessively and would remove all emissions control devices.

People's eyes open from doing it wrong hard enough. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. It sounds like Arnold maybe has found awareness there is nothing on earth more critical to protect than the quality of the atmosphere.
