Hello, I’m looking to build another ebike, and for reasons I can’t quite explain I need a very specific frame style.

super-v-400-1998-1024x625.jpg

Something like the cannondale super v frame, I’m not sure what this exact frame style is called, but I’ve seen it on some cheap Walmart bikes.

If anyone knows where to look for a frame like this that would be great. Ive looked at super v frames but havent found any that support a rear disc brake, which is a definite goal for this project. Thanks!

^ edit, disc brakes shouldn’t be an issue with an adapter so ignore that. I’m really just curious as to where I can find a bike frame that *looks* like this under like 200 bucks.

I don't know what that style of frame is called, but the first thing that came to mind was "Supercycle", a cheap BSO. Should be available on Craigslist, Walmart, or your local crack alley. Slightly different design however, but that's what came to mind.

Trek Y Series (y11, y22, y33)
cannondale super v (500,800,1000, 2000 etc)
if you need it for standover primarily and the rear suspension can be different mountain cycle san andreas
i think specialized made one called the fsr or rockhopper fs or something that was similar for a while
couple el cheapo mongoose and pacifics had it for a while but rode like poo
im sure there are more that I can't think of but others will know

That style frame was popular just before they started adding disc brakes to mountain bikes, and died out right about that time (but I don't think there was a correlation).

There were a lot of cheap versions sold by Walmart after the mainstream manufacturers stopped making them.

Specialized Rockhopper FSR Comp https://cnj.craigslist.org/bik/d/union-full-suspension-specialized/7357731781.html

That is probably the most common full suspension frame design made.
It originated on the “Big Name” brands .Giant, Cannondale , Specialised , GT, etc....but went out of top line frames as the multi link rear suspension became the selling point.
Its still on many cheap FS bikes from China on Ebay, Alibarba etc

Old suspension frames are usually worth less than zero dollars, because they have so many parts to wear out that are no longer supported.

For $85 you could get a complete new frame and all other parts !

Any of them parts worth reusing on a different project. Like front forks, disc brakes from calipers to hubs. or cutting off rear suspension for another steel frame.

None of the parts of a bike like that are worth using for anything besides scrap metal. It's the cheapest kind of BSO, that isn't even especially bicycle-shaped.

Fortunately , you are outnumbered by folks with a more practical attitude, imagination and concern for others..
Used, cheap, unwanted bike parts can transform the life of people less fortunate than us..
Use what you want, ..frame, ? ..tyres,? Etc... they give the rest to an organisation like this in your area...

That type of suspension is called Unified Rear Triangle or URT.

Unified rear triangle frames had two specific qualities: the bottom bracket was in the swingarm, and the swingarm pivot was significantly above the bottom bracket.

I work three days a week for just such an organization: https://austinyellowbike.org/

We rehabilitate a certain number of BSOs for donation to the wretched, but most of them go to the metal recycler where they belong. Even the 110 bikes staged up right now for shipment to Zambia are mostly legitimate bikes that were originally sold through a bike shop.

Just like dogs, there are plenty of good bikes that are worth the trouble to restore. You don't have to waste time on the lost causes that will never be any damn good. If you'd dealt with enough BSOs, you'd know that even the frames, brake pads, and tires are worse than cheap and basic. If the manufacturers accidentally make something functional and serviceable, they recognize that they spent money on it that they can save the next time around.

I respect and commend you for your efforts to those organisations.
But you should not be the judge of what is good or bad or useful to a population that has so much less choice than us.
A bad rim or brake pad is better than no rim or pad, and a rim with no tyre and only half its spokes can be of enormous help to someone. Even a few broken spokes can be repurposed into something useful if you have nothing at all !
I am always amazed at the videos of these poor nations with folk repurposing scrap into life improving tools.
( Asians reworking sections of worn out rail track into machette’s and knives !)
Let the recipient decide what is useful or not.
Sorry to the OP for wandering so far off topic !
