I wonder how good this is , using wick style wire and elastic bands to hold them with no solder !

I wonder if they still do this in the new packs

That pack design was what they used when I arrived in 2011.

The best thing it had going for it was no solder, which would pointlessly damage electrolyte and potentially can wall interior polymer coating, and offer the same or worse conductivity and add solder wicking induced stress riser failure points in vibration at each joint.

Not saying I'm into it or that I would build it for myself, but interconnect impedance was actually not bad, nor was net mass or packaging size given the very early generation spinel cell it's using that looks pitiful compared to modern cells.

Thanks for the info , I wonder if for lower power ebike setups is a possible solution, I've seen lots of different methods but for a company to use it in production gives some hope for the home ebike tinkerers. However it's the cell types that dictate this method ? I can't see this working on 18650 , unless using some risers and then it's dodgy.

While proven possible to make it work, the snath style packs seem much easier to assemble and make low impedance series joints.

Pointers for those who googled "snath" and didn't get anywhere?

Ah yes I remember reading through that thread. Looks tricky to get right though , I'm terrible when it comes to longing things up, give me any thread and il manage to strip it.

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87434 how abou these for a lower wattage pack ? What you need a battery for ?

Tell you what, I reckon nano tech could bring a solution to solderless packs. Contact area and conductivity.

yeah the zero packs with that braid+elastic bands is kind of trippy but obviously works.
I am building a new magnet on copper foil based pack that will be 18S.
Still waiting for the 18650 cells to come but its all paid for and locked in, not turning back now.

I was kind of weighing it all up considering the fact neodymium magnets aren't environmentally friendly etc but considering the fact most of our cobalt for lithium batteries come from african kids slaving away digging it all up for us and the obvious fact that no on gives a crap about that then whats the difference.

Its the tiny amount of youtube hits on the topic surprises me and exposes the truth of human nature, I have uploaded youtube videos that have the world "Elon Musk" in the title and gotten more views in a shorter amount of time. He will show us the true nature of the force
