ebike simulator: why hasn't everyone's hubs burnt up?

I've seen these recommended in another thread: http://australia.rs-online.com/web/p/products/0286175/ I actually tried buying a few a while back but they were way overcharging for shipping so I changed my mind. Maybe I should buy a bunch a sell em' cheap on ES...

ebike simulator: why hasn't everyone's hubs burnt up?

If you're particularly worried about burning up your motor, just install a temperature probe. Then you'll always know if you're overdoing it and can dial down the power a bit if you're reaching the limit. This way you can get the full power out of your motor and never worry about burning it...

    Crimping tool

I had the same exact problem as the OP and was looking for a non insulated crimper in addition to a powerpole crimper. I eventually chose the Andy Crimp pro because it can do 15/30/45/75 amp terminals, and the tri-crimp can't do 75. They also have a non-insulated terminal die you can get for...

    Kona Coiler conversion

My original (and current) idea is to put the batteries in the frame as well. I wanted to put 8Ah in the triangle and an additional 8Ah up front near the handlebars. On road, the front mount batteries works so incredibly well that I have haven't felt any need to create a triangle battery...

    Kona Coiler conversion

Hey looks like you're building something nearly identical to my bike! I used an older kona stinky, which I believe has the same frame as the coiler, with an HT3525 and 82V lipo. I can therefore predict a few of the problems you are going to run into. If you use DB torque arms you are going to...

    Is one torque arm enough?

You are correct I had a rocking issue, but that was due to regen. My solution was... just don't use regen. I've only tested it out on low regen a couple of times like in the video I posted, so that wouldn't be nearly enough to cause this problem. The axle nuts were always kept very tight with...

    Is one torque arm enough?

Yes Yes Mine were too, spent quite a while using my metal file to get rid of all the corrosion on the side I epoxied Just cleaned it with alchohol Yep, clamped it down hard

    Is one torque arm enough?

Tried pulling the other side off and... pop goes the torque arm. I even was able to pull out the derailleur hanger than I epoxied in. In other words, my torque arm install was a complete and utter failure. Thank god my stinky's dropouts are apparently pretty strong on their own. I'm honestly...

    Recommend me a ebike kit

You need a Greyborg or Crystalyte 54XX motor for that. Before you jump off the deep end, you might want to give this thread a quick read so you know what you're getting yourself into: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36830

    Is one torque arm enough?

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that the torque arm that is still attatched is fine. The one that fell off looked sketchy from the get go, but I was still surprised because I thought DP420 was nearly indestructible. I'll stick with one torque arm for now while I try to figure out a good torque arm...

    Is one torque arm enough?

So I tried removing my rear wheel a few days ago and to my surprise, one of my Doctorbass torque arms fell off! Yes, I used the DP420, but my alignment wasn't particularly good on the one that fell off. Anyways, while I rethink my torque arm situation, is it safe to ride my bike with only...

Power supply to use with Hyperion 1420i

I'm using one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Supply-24V-DC-750W-31-3A-CNC-Servo-Stepper-Motor-/270867517540?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f10f65064#ht_527wt_1396 Works well with no mods needed and cheap for a real meanwell. I think i'm only getting about 500W output from my hyperion...

Hi power cycles HPC XC-1 EXTREME Electric Full Suspension

On a forum that universally hates snobbery from traditional bikers, I find that snobbery towards prebuilt e-bikes to be unfortunate. In the end we all just wanna have fun on ebikes, if someone wants to spend a couple hundred more having someone else build it I don't see the problem. In fact...

Hi power cycles HPC XC-1 EXTREME Electric Full Suspension

I really don't get the HPC hate on this site. I've dealt with them and they are really nice guys who have been nothing but responsive and helpful. Yes, their advertised specs are maximum and not continuous usage, and they will explain those details when you chat with them. The lifepo...

    Multiplug connectors

I've been looking for pretty much the same type of connector to quickly convert my 22S2P pack to 11S4P for balance charging on my hyperion. I'm using 6mm hxt bullets from hobbyking in a similar configuration, but I'll probably switch to powerpole 45A connectors. That is, unless someone can...

=>ARKEL - Outstanding Luggage Rack for MTB and DH bike

Looks pretty nice. I'm in the market for something like this, but the max load of 13lbs seems a low for what I need.

    New lipos from Hobbyking!

Why do a lot of soldering? Couldn't you just pop the pins out of the 3S and 4S connectors and pop them directly into this bare 7S connector housing? http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/XHP-8/455-1902-ND/923773 You would have to solder the first and last wires from the two connectors...

    New lipos from Hobbyking!

Oh, here's a weird way I think you could charge two of these 7S batteries with a hyperion charger with no additional parts or adapters. I don't really recommend this, lol. This works because the hyperion balance board connectors are all paralelled - ie all the pin 1's are connected, all the...

    CA Legal Question

Thanks for the info, it seems pretty clear that in CA the law is "no ebikes on trails". For some reason I thought that there were contradictory laws on this subject but I must be mistaken. When I'm on trails I'll try to be extra stealthy so people don't notice I'm on an ebike. I think it will...

    CA Legal Question

Its called veterans parkway and it goes through Hermosa and Manhattan beach. Its mainly a jogging path, but it has an intermittent 1 mile stretch of singletrack on the side that's kinda fun. Not sure which city owns it. I was just surprised to see this sign as I though ebikes could go...

    CA Legal Question

Saw a sign on a pathway this weekend that stated "No Motorized Bicycles" in addition to the usual "No Motorized Vehicles." This is the first time I've seen one of these signs. I understand that in California legally an ebike is not a motorized vehicle, but is it a motorized bicycle? Or is...

    Greg's Stinky Build

I freaking love this bike    Been too busy riding to update this thread. Thanks for all the comments, especially the torque plate pics, I'm sure that will help future stinky owners. I got some more batteries, so now I'm at 22S 16AH. I've now got a max speed of...

    What ebike/kit would you sell?

I'd sell a high watt geared hub motor conversion kit, something that could handle 2-4kw no problem. No one has a high wattage geared hub motor right now and it seems like there is a market for it.

    Partial Throttle and Controller Heat

I've read on this forum that using partial throttle can cause significantly more heat in controllers, possibly causing controller failure. I'm interested in minimizing this problem on prolonged uphill climbs. Here's an example: Lets say I'm biking up a long 20% grade hill and I want to go...
