    extra fees when ordering

I've ordered lots of stuff from China, including batteries, and never paid extra fee's, but when ordering from the US, they hit me for the full $ amount, and takes just as long to ship. I think it has something to do with customs and if they bothered to check your box for contraband. It's...

    Crank length?

30mm reduction is a lot more noticeable than you may think. My 15mm reduction clearly felt less stressfull than my 170mm cranks did, now I don't bonk my knee into my chest any more :) . However, I would never advise anyone to go as low as 100mm cranks if your average height.

    Crank length?

Yes, you spotted the two pairs of drop-outs, no mechanical connections and open storage. The engeneering of the trike is great for a less-than-perfect-design to begin with. The rear subframe is only connected by two cr-mo pipes that are part of the front framing members. This allows the rear to...

    Crank length?

Just to be clear, The picture I posted was from the "Lightfoot site" I purchased the exact same model. My trike has the 10T Mac motor mounted to the right rear wheel, which is isolated from the left chain driven (from factory) wheel. Here is a bottom shot, of the same trike, from their site, so...

    Crank length?

Here is a picture of the one I bought, hope they don't mind. Great for mid drive mod, but I went 2WD, one rear wheel motored with 10 turn "Mac" and other side is peddle power.

    Crank length?

170mm cranks are a common size where I live, and found them a bit cumbersome even before I went electric 14 years ago. Now with my new build, 155mm crank arms work well, down from 165mm with my 5 year old recumbent. I'm 6 feet tall with a hip replacement and other minor leg issues from 60 years...

List of STEEL-framed bikes now available

Lightfootcycles , Based in Montana make most of their bikes/trikes with cr/mo steel. I bought a trike from them and had no problems shipping to Canada, it was 7 feet long and fully built. This is my second steel recumbent bike, and the spring like flex with long steel frames is great for...

When will the Fat bike fad die?

Fat tires are definitely cool looking to a certain limit, but dorky, or cartoonish, if overdone. Narrower front tire is a good call. Where I live we have good pavement almost everywhere, even bike trails, 2.5 inches is my limit to keep any squirm to a minimum. I had a pair of cheap 2.5 inch...

    My Big Fat Giant

Wow, those are awesome looking rims, and double walled at that. Had you considered the moped sized rubber? And would it fit. I'm just amazed at what's available to us ebikers.

    Hydraulic discbrake T-coupling?

This looks like the proper approach to the problem, but they keep saying these are for road bikes only. I don't see why, maybe I need to read more. Thanks for the link though.

    Hydraulic discbrake T-coupling?

I'm interested in this "T" coupling also, but my kit is a "juicy five" kit from "Avid" hyd. brakes. I will definitely keep my eyes open, and ask the bike shops here, Thanks for bringing this subject up to the board.

New "Flat-Less" Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tyres for 2014

good to hear about the "Marathons" compound upgrade, because I use them for many years of trouble-free fun. Now, however, just installed "Armadillo's" with flat-free kevlar belts called "Crossroads" this year. seem tough construction for us ebiker loads. Has anyone used these Armadillo tires before?

    Breaking Spokes

When you guys mention "29mm to 39mm" rims, do we measure the outside roughly, with a vernier caliper? Or do we measure the inside bead-seat part of the rim? Because I'm building my etrike, and the wheels are only about 30mm outside measurement, with 1.95 inch tires. :? I think i'll upgrade as...

48v hobby king set up options

I also run my 14s lipo without a BMS, and would never recommend running below 3.6 volts ea. The batteries clearly start to wander a bit and sag faster at lower than 3.5 voltages.

Changing Ebike Battery From 48/14 SLA To 48/15 LIPO Volts?

Yep, 14 series for the win, bulk chargers are off the-shelf set for 58.8 volts and everything. But that's the fun of building your own pack, is upgrading when you can afford it.

throttle connector + cruise don't match

I bought the kit from "EM3ev" but I don't want to use the right-hand throttle and cruise button combo unit he sent me with a big white connector. Can I just hard wire my throttle leads? But where the heck do the other two wires go, labeled "ground" and "cruise signal" .

    Comments/Critique on Prospective Build

I have found that a 52 tooth front chain ring is an absolute must for casual long rides.

    MAC 8T on 16S lipo?

I'm on my third ebike build in 10 years , and 14s lipo is the sweet spot for speed (50km/h) and not too much weight. Remember, your riding a bike, 50 km/h is very fast for these frames. Personally, I would not go over 1600 watts with a geared motor if you want it to last.

    Battery needs balancing?

Many folks here, including myself use these small phone chargers to top-up a low cell. We do this by pulling out a pin from the "HXS" (typo) plug used extensively on ebikes and RC models, then connect one end to the small phone charger and the pin is inserted into the "low" balance tap then...

    5amp charger battery degridation

I use a 6 amp charger for my 16amp/hr pack and works like a dream for years. Faster charging is also safe in the way it only takes about 1/2 hr to top-up my pack while having coffee, short and sweet.

    Hobbyking Customer Service.

That's a sad story "RC-guy" . The batteries I ordered were the 6S 5800mah 25-30C Turnigy cells, and two separate orders were a year apart they were near in perfect balance and received them in three weeks time to my door. Gee, now I'm nervous about ordering my next batch :?

    Ultimate Ebike transport

You've got us all revved-up for adventure. Personally I'd go long wheel base recumbent with front fairing. most of them are made of chrome moly steel, which is essentially spring steel, and they are 7 feet long. Perfect for long distance rides, they hold lots of cargo and have the most...

yes, I remember the post you speak of 'dnmun' and agree with your views, but we gave him heck for doin it. My experience with Hobbyking was good, and only took three weeks at my door.

72V Motorcycle Wheels Mac 6T Motor Street Ride

Nice build, love those wheels like everyone else said. Anything over 35 MPH on a mountain bike is too fast and windy in my 8 years of ebiking. What is the width of the wheels? Are they aluminum?
