Bafang M500/M600 thread

I'm one of the folks with the last generation of the Luna X1 with the M600, and like many I am annoyed at the way this motor works in low PAS levels - it basically doesn't. Then at 3/5 or 5/9 you suddenly get tons of power everywhere, but a little too much, really.

Maybe the torque sensor recalibration is the answer here, has anyone tried that?

Would it be possible to swap in an M500? It sounds like it might be more refined. I know the mounts are the same - but what about the connections?

same here i have a Luna Babe m600. pas 1&2 are useless. 3-5 is all i use. luna would answer you m500 question.

Hi guys, just ordered a Dengfu E05. Wil take a wile to get to Europe but I’m surfing around already to get some info. Saw the problems with adjustability with parameters in the m500/600. The new m420 uses the same canbus system right?

Found this online:
https://www.eplus.bike/en/products/eplus-flash-bafang/

Should work for the m600 also then I think.
Good news someone found a way. Maybe we can doe it ourselves in de future😁

Eplus is paid alternative software.
To achieve the same result, we can use BEEST without an account or a free CAN interface.
The motor parameters depend on the controller firmware, until someone produces an alternative firmware, there will be no other parameters that can be changed.

Is there a way to “download” the firmware from the controller so it can uploaded to a different controller?
I just received motor with 14.5 firmware and I would like to be able to go back to it.

I get a lot of useful information here, so I'll share some knowledge with you
I have driven about 1700km on the M600, during the last rides I noticed that sometimes the engine is idling. The cause is in the one-way bearing of the second gear. The bearing is marked HFL1426, it can be bought normally.

I ordered the M500 engine because I mind the big noise of the M600 and the power of the M600 is too much for me. And I also think that the M500 will consume less energy.

Apart from the higher noise, I have no complaints about the M600. The engine is pleasantly aggressive in the field and well performing uphill.

To configure the Bafang M500 / M600 motor without using the BESST programmer, you can use this interface.

Link interface USB to CAN on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Converter-Module-Raspberry-Zero/dp/B07Q812QK8/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=usb+to+can+innomaker&qid=1604409709&sr=8-2

Link cables Bafang HMI M500/M600 on e-bike-technologies:
https://www.e-bike-technologies.de/index.php/en/connectors/connectors-signal/connectors-higo-mini-f-series/higo-b5-f-detail
https://www.e-bike-technologies.de/index.php/en/connectors/connectors-signal/connectors-higo-mini-f-series/higo-s5-f-detail

Below are the software and the instructions for configuration and use.

Thank you very much for the useful information you share with us here.

I bought the equipment from the link. I manage to change the parameters on the M600, but it's very sporadic. When the LCD is on and the "open device" state is on, the program is frozen, nothing can be written or sent. I have to do this when turning the LCD on or off. After twenty attempts, it will finally work out :)
Is it "normal" or am I doing something wrong?

You cannot download the firmware.
To return to the previous firmware you must have the relative file.

It is a problem of the "innomaker" software, you have to close and open it several times to make it work.

I have been using an MTB with an Bafang M600 motor since July, and I have just crossed 5000km.
For the moment the motor works well, indeed now it is quieter and with freer pedaling.
I am evaluating any maintenance to be done, do you have a list of all the bearings mounted?

Dear all

In first, sorry for my bad english. I need help for my M500. I use throtlle only for walk mode (high moutain), before on BBS i can adjust the max voltage to make throtlle efficient for this use. but on M500 it seem it is more complicate and it is a problem for my use, diffcult to find the right position to avoid walking beside and when the bike is stopped by a stone, the motor stop in error 21 and it is necessary to switch off/on to continue. Has somebody have an solution (and can help me to correcting) ?

patdap - I don't know where is your problem, but error 21 is wheel rpm sensor. When motor run 2-3 sec and have no signal from rpm sensor, is it error 21.

When in walk mode, the wheel spins too slowly and there is no signal to the controller therefore you get error 21. It's a design flaw. I've notified Bafang about it. But it has not been fixed. You also get it when trying to do low speed manoeuvres like turning around our starting out very slowly.

But as soon as you start moving the error goes away by itself once the speed sensor registers movement

" But as soon as you start moving the error goes away by itself once the speed sensor registers movement "
Andy

difficult to do (moving the bike forward) when you are in rock garden, beside the bike, trying to hold it and don't faulling down.

Nobody have an solution to modified max power (reducing to +- 150 wat) of the throtlle ?

Patdam, glad you have found this thread, its a great resource.

As to the slowness of the walk mode, we have found that you have to change the gears into the mid range gears on the back, then you can get the 6kph limit. Don't forget then to change back into the larger gears before getting back on.

Patdam, you mentioned that you can set the display up to 9 levels. Is that correct ? I need a wide variation of levels as I ride regulary with analogue riders and also with those on the Brose motors, which seem to have the most power of all the bunch I ride with ( none of us have the M600 motor )

9 mode, i have not checked in reality, i found it with 5 and i have decrease to 3. i have said 9, following my experience of BBS, but may be i am wrong. No importance, who need 9 modes ? several mode whould not mean more power, the last mode is always the most powerfull

I understand from this M500/M600 thread that the Bafang M600 has a CANbus.
When I read the compatibility page of the EggRider manual, https://manual.eggrider.com/compatibility/ , they claim they are not compatible with the CANbus but then they claim to be compatible with the Bafang M600... :?:
Did I miss something ?

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my spider form my leader fox acron. He has a bafang m500 mid motor and the holles are stretched out, the bolts weren't tight as I drove around.
I want to buy a new spider, but I cant find them on the internet. I don't know the real name.
I thought: motor: m500 cl: 47.5 BCD: 104 Spider: EM33B.

Can someone help me? :bigthumb:

This is a typo, it is not compatible with M600.

Hi. I got a Bafang M500 and trying to use BESST Tool to over ride 25Kmh speed limit.

I can log into it using the previous guide written here (thank you).

I cannot change the speed higher than 25, only wheel size and circumference.

When I attempt to change the Max Speed I get an error message: “Dealer or Assembler not permitted to change max speed”

Do I have to just change wheel size / circumference only to bypass the 25kmh limit?
