Hi.
I just ordered a CA3 for my 72080 but 3 of the six wires for the connector are not connected.
I think i saw a setailed description somewhere here but can't find it.
Can anybody please help me find out where to solder the wires?

I've taken it apart and made some shots.

I hoped to see some solder where wires are missing. Sadly nothing.

Yellow and white not connected and one completely missing.

Found this one:

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=62809

So the missing wires are:

3. Shunt negative
4. Shunt positive
5. Hall sensor signal

Seems i didnt have to take it apart?

You will need a separate shunt resistor for the sabvoton also the hall sensor wire can be used for speed or motor temperature. Look up the CA manual and all will become clear.

If you mean that the connector on the sabvoton doesn't have the wires you're after...well, AFAIK the sabvoton doesn't have a CA-DP connector at all.

I don't know what the Sabvoton's connector is actually meant for, but if you just plug the CA (or whatever) into it, you may damage both the CA and the Sabvoton.

There is info on Grin's site in the CA information pages or the CA manual, etc., on which wires in the CA-DP connector need to go to what *functions* in the controller, but every controller is different (even different versions of the same model/brand, much less different models of different brands), so there isn't a way to specify exactly where to wire everything.

There are some threads on adding a CA-DP connector to various controllers that may help guide you, like these:

If your Sabvoton uses a resistive battery shunt, then when you are done you will need to follow the procedure for calibrating the CA shunt resistance, after you've determined the resistance of your Sabvoton's shunt (there are procedures for doing that in the manual/site for the CA, and here on ES, as well, depending on the equipment you have available).

If your Sabvoton uses a voltage-output hall-effect current sensor on the battery line, you might be able to adapt that to be readable by the CA, but I don't know that it could be directly connected to the shunt line without damaging the CA's shunt amplifier. You might have to use the external CA-SA shunt, plugged into the CA-DP connector on your CA, which then also has thick wires that must go in series from your battery to your controller's battery input.

In many cases it is easier to just start with the CA-SA model, with it's external shunt and wheel sensor. (you can buy the wheel sensor and shunt separately for an existing CA-DP model).

@amberwolf
The 3 wires of the 6-pin connector that are connected are connected as described on the CA info page.
I do have a seperate shunt (came with the controller).

Here you can see the "SMY-6" Connector wich is wired exactly as described on the CA page.
And the "missing" lines seem to be as intended as well. - except for the Yellow one, which could have been connected internally.
So technically you are correct, since the connector is not "plug and play" for the CA-DP.

It seems there are versions without this 6-pin...

There's just the yellow Hall sensor wire. The CA page does not mention using the hall sensor for temperature. And on my Hall Connector the "top center"/"yellow-white temp sensor" wire (as in the picture) doesn't exist.
The CA does have a 2-pin "Thermistor" connector though.

I suspect i don't have a way to monitor motor temperature as it is.

In your case the yellow hall wire calculates the speed so attach it to the yellow on the CA. You can also use the yellow wire from the CA to connect to the motor temp wire directly (normally between +and - on the motors hall sensor plug). If you do this then you will require a speed sensor to solder to the CA. It's all in the CA manual.

Ok. Then you're set for those, and just have to connect any of hte other three that your usage scenario requires.

I do have a seperate shunt (came with the controller).
The blue and white wires will then connect to this.

If you mean that you don't have a temperature sensor on the motor, then that's correct. You'd have to open up the motor to add one.
