Bafang M500/M600 thread

48 volt is a must ( you can run 52 volt setups ), are you aware that the M500 is no more and its been replaced by the M510 which is lighter and about 10% more powerful ?

Frames, why the Seroxat frame ? the Dengfu frames have now such a wide following + have modern geometries + have so much build advice, that you could save yourself a lot of time and effort in research.

Right, but where can I buy the M510?

Seroxat because is aluminium. I am afraid of Dengfu because it is carbon...

The M510 looks like its just become available, Melody at Dengfu can arrange the purchase.

Don't be fearful of the carbon frames, they have now been well and truely tested by my fat derriere and a whole lot of others.

I asked Dengfu and greenebikekit and both said they do not sell yet M510.

I really want to go with M500 only. The frames I were looking are for the bigger M620.

Can someone point me to the frames for M500?? Thanks
 
You can ask cne Bikes on Alibaba. They can arrange the m510. But currently 90days delivery time

Thanks. On my research, I also ended up with only Dengfu E10 frame for M500/M600 motors. Only one option, that is very limited :-( :-(

There are others, LightCarbon, some on AliExpress that are Ali, but mainly hard tails, if you want to go down the development route and I think you have an Ali welder locally ( didn’t you have a cargo bike made ) then you can simply buy an Ali motor mount and weld it into an existing frame. Not a lot of work to do it but you really need to fabricate jigs to ensure the motor sits in correctly to the frame geometries.

But for all the work & cost you will do, a Dengfu E10 or a LightCarbon LC004 will maximise your benefits of the new motor, give you up to date geometries and even a high resale value when you come to move onto the next bike. And most importantly you will be outside riding your bike, enjoying family time more, the quickest.

Thanks, I did not know yet about LightCarbon frame option.

I have the cargo bike but the experience was not so good: expensive price (2.500€ for the full bike without the TSDZ2 motor and battery), and some wrong things done by the welder.

For now I think the Dengfu E10 is a safe bet, but very expensive, about $2.600 for the frame + motor + battery + shipping and taxes!!!

Pls check quotation as follows:
E10 in UD matt finish: $799
A headset for E10: $14
Rear thru axle for E10: $10
M500 Bafang motor 48V 250W: $700
Battery 48V 17.5Ah: $430

Shipping cost to Portugal including tax prepaid is $520. You don't need pay any tax when you receive all. 4.2% Paypal fee should be added.

My last EBike was a Decathlon full suspension air shocks, that costs 500€ + the TSDZ2 motor.

So, let's say on that 500€ MTB, the frame was 100€ of total. Comparing to this frame, that costs 1100€, that is 11 times more!!

TSDZ2 costed 350€, so half of that price for Bafang M500 quote.

The battery for TSDZ2 costed 200€, so half of battery price of that quote.

As I am in a poor country, our income is low, and I wish to have a cheaper option.

Use a lot of your own existing components from your old bike, last years XT is this years Deore and we all thought last years XT was top class. Be thankful of those who do more polishing than riding, they do tend to want the latest and greatest and EBay and the likes always seem to have their cast offs up for sale.

You think that you are a poor country, there are 100’s poorer and awful lot potentially with the current worlds situation, about to be. 8)

Hi CiDi, i have read your post regarding the CAN convertor to configure Bafang M500 without BESST programmer. It seems interesting but i have a few questions.
- How do you distinguish the different frame id's (setup, torque sensor calibration, Position sensor calibration)?
- Can you change the torque settings and if so, how do you do that?

I have a M400 and i want to change the torque settings if possible.
 
The Bafang M series due to the closed firmware, allows very limited settings, maximum speed, wheel circumference, wheel diameter and calibration of the torque and motor speed sensor.
You can use BESST or CAN interface, but the parameters that you can set are the same.
In the case of the torque sensor you can only do an empty calibration and it is only needed in case of sensor or controller replacement.

I found the carbonbikekits frame, that I would save about 200€ compared to the Dengfu E10. But I can not found any review or how to build an ebike with this frame - does anyone know a link for such information??

So it is probably just for system to record the offset value it has as 0kg force.

@CiDi I think you were the guy you documented more the CAN commands. Do you think would be possible to develop our own display and have all the information the original display shows as also add configurations menu to send the commands for configurations as the max speed as also the torque sensor calibration?

My idea would be to adapt this display firmware, to show the Bafang M500/M600 data as also add the configurations. This display has Bluetooth, meaning we could even make an app to flash the Bafang M500/M600 firmware using our phones.
Also supports the ANT+ LEV EBike wireless profile, so we could send all the Bafang M500/M600 data to our GPS units on the handle bar or to our watches.

I believe the sensor may be 'calibrated' (to 'zero') every time the controller is powered on. On a few occasions, I have powered the bike on while pedaling, or with my foot resting on the pedal. It led to some 'wild' actions...no assist when I first pushed on the pedals... continued assist long after I stopped pedaling.... assist which wasn't in proportion to the pedal effort, etc.

The solution was to power off, keep my feet off the pedals and power on again. This seemed to reset the torque sensor to 'zero' and it performed as normal... which still isn't great, but better than being shot off a cliff by a phantom power surge!
