Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

Try one of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10080__Turnigy_130A_Watt_Meter_and_Power_Analyzer.html Don't build an eskateboard without it. Richard

Some surfaces aren't suitable for skateboards. Coarse black-top, cobble stones and others need bigger, softer wheels. Or perhaps rubber tires/wheels. Urethane is too hard for some surfaces.

Photos would be appreciated. Interesting. Was thinking from the beginning, with the Holey mount, that an angle-strut coming over from around the center of the axle might be a good idea. Would also allow a thinner mount. But the Caliber mount is especially troubling to me. At least the...

DIY Programmable BMS (now using ATtiny/Arduino)

Yes, a very important question. Processors can crash and leave things in strange and sometimes dangerous states. Cars use processors and they go to great lengths to handle dangerous conditions. Airliners use processors and employ multiple redundancy with numerous interlocks and failsafes...

Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

Please forgive me for saying this ... but abusing a motor in that way is terrible. If no one had yet divised a belt or chain drive, or if you lived on a desert island with limited parts, it might be excusable. Otherwise, it's just nasty. Abuse of hardware. My apologies. Just had to get...

Looks like a great size. What are the actual dimensions?

Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

Cool. That's pretty small. I've been thinking about making a smaller board. Something easier to carry around. Maybe stuff it into my backpack. Or maybe a telescoping board. My current deck was something I had lying around. I thought it was short at 48.3 cm (19-inch) wheelbase. But it...

At a dollar or two a piece an Arduino isn't overkill for much anymore. Seven or eight dollars for a complete board. Taylored response curves are a piece of cake for the Arduino.

DIY Programmable BMS (now using ATtiny/Arduino)

That sounds wonderful. I keep thinking that if someone will work out the details of monitoring cells with a microcontroller that a flood of different things will become possible, cheaply and easily. Ultimately, the ability to monitor a large number of cells would be incredibly enabling...

Reverse-engineering the Alien Power Systems ESCs

You've got it upside down. Companies draw from existing work to start new projects every time. Society gains from shared knowlegdge. That's why patents have a limited life and why 'obvious' works are not patentable. The people that catalog designs openly propel society forward immensely...

Reverse-engineering the Alien Power Systems ESCs

Thanks for your efforts! We do need motor mounts, since they're no longer available in the US. And a simple, cheap single-cell charger that can be ganged together to charge whole packs with no messy balancing would be great. We also need wheel-mountable gear/pulleys. Open source/open access...

Zero-Draw, Solid State Contactor w/Precharge (Arduino)

You can do a whole world of cool and useful things once you have a processor wired in. Plug it into the USB port on another handy device and use that for the display. One of many possibilities.

Yep, regen on a skateboard isn't very useful. I was thinking the Boosted approach might be nice to try. But you really have to have one to play with to know. More travel is a good thing. The thumb can't move as far as your finger, so the finger trigger wins out in my estimation. The R/C...

Thanks for the info. After paying for shipping from Australia I may be better off canibalizing GT2s. :-( At least now I know the parts are available somewhere. Maybe I can get one of the US suppliers to order them ... The Xbee stuff is over priced. Others are less than half as much on Ebay...

My diy electric longboard so far, parts list sk3 213kv

Just a reminder, there are tutorials on youtube for just about everything under the sun ... here's one about taking the GT2 apart and putting a Lipo pack in it ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sCnlIUv6-0 A new case for it sounds like a winner. Please make an extra one if you do ... :-)...

Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

I want a Bluetooth hand-controller because I want feedback. Minimally, I want to display a battery fuel gauge showing how much power I have left. I keep imagining displays mounted on the board -- and then covering them up with my feet. Or having to look down to see them. I almost never look...

Glad to hear someone else is/was chasing a Bluetooth hand-controller too. Still waiting on a few parts for mine. About antennas ... I think Exkate had it right. My old Exkate board has a strip of 3-inch wide aluminum tape running most of the length of the board -- beginning after the motor...

Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

I think one motor is sufficient for powering the board. Mechanical brakes on the two front wheels seem like a good choice for descending hills safely. The simplicity and reliability afforded seem likely to easily surpass motor-driven braking in almost every way. I am a little put off by the...

Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

I've been biting my tongue, but Pogo is so not cool. It's almost childish. Do I get a cartoon boat anchor to throw out too? Using the widely varying road surface as the friction component for your brakes is just plain wrong! Brakeboard does require it's own special trucks. One of the...

One of the cable-controlled braking systems could probably be integrated into our existing remote controls through a second channel and a powerful servo.

That's not been my experience. I've instrumented my EZRUN Pro 150 amp car ESC. Braking takes less current than climbing hills on my board. And since the maximum peak current I've recorded is around 50 amps, it's just not an issue. Peak current on a typical ride is usually much less that...

I have a couple different plane ESCs that were quite cheap. A Mystery CLOUD-200a I got on Ebay for $36. Supposedly capable of 200 amps with 6S Lipo. And an HK SS-90/100 (Hobbyking.com, $25), that's spec'd at 100 amps with 7S Lipo. They work okay, but the brakes are not-so-good. Airplane ESC...
